AUBURN-OPELIKA, Ala. — Auburn-Opelika Tourism (AO Tourism) was recognized for Excellence in Partnership at Southern Pickleball’s 2025 Awards Banquet, an annual event celebrating the top partners, communities, and players from across the region. The award highlights AO Tourism’s continued commitment to growing the sport of pickleball and supporting events that bring both community engagement and economic impact to Eastern Alabama.
“We chose to recognize AO Tourism for their unwavering dedication to their community and their continued commitment to growing pickleball across the region, making a meaningful impact both on and off the courts across Eastern Alabama,” said Lara Schu, director of operations for Southern Pickleball. “AO Tourism has consistently proven their dedication to the growth of pickleball and support of Southern Pickleball and we are honored to be able to celebrate them for their continued Excellence in Partnership. We can’t wait for what else is in store in 2026.”
The recognition follows a successful partnership during the 2025 Alabama Amateur State Pickleball Championships, held Oct. 24–26 at the Opelika Pickleball Facility. The three-day tournament brought players from across the state to compete in singles, doubles and mixed divisions, further establishing Opelika as a premier destination for pickleball.
In addition to AO Tourism’s recognition, Southern Pickleball honored the Opelika Pickleball Club as an Outstanding Pickleball Club and named Jim Young a Pioneer of Pickleball, a lifetime achievement award recognizing individuals dedicated to the long-term growth of the sport.
As pickleball continues to grow nationwide, AO Tourism remains committed to hosting high-quality events and fostering a welcoming environment for players of all levels.
