Funeral service for Morris Edwards, 68, of Opelika, AL, will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 3, 2026, at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 432 Maple Avenue, Opelika, AL 36801, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery, 1409 Monroe Avenue, Opelika, AL 36801. Reverend Vincent Sykes will officiate.
Mr. Edwards, who passed away Thursday, March 26, 2026, at his home in Opelika, Alabama, was born July 25, 1957, in Lee County, Alabama.
Public viewing will be on Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Mr. Edwards will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the service.
He leaves to cherish his memory: five children, Erika Blunt-Jackson, Morris Freeman both of Opelika, AL Gwendolyn “Portia” Edwards of Atlanta, GA, Mario Winfrey and Brian Winfrey both of Cleveland, OH; wife, Deborah Blunt of Opelika, AL; loving mother, Sarah Edwards of Valley, AL; step-mother, Louise Andrews of Cleveland, OH; sixteen grandchildren, Tracey (Tobias) Bonner, Nakiamalika Blunt, Taniyiah Freeman, Shomari Winfrey, Xylon Jackson, Neveah Freeman, Tashaun Winfrey, Malik Winfrey, Mason Winfrey, Brooklyn Winfrey, Amari Freeman, NiMya Ridgeway-Edwards, Alaina Winfrey, Tyler Winfrey, Josiah Edwards and Miles Winfrey; four great-grandchildren; Alona Freeman, Tobias Bonner, Jr., Kason Jackson and Teagan Bonner; two sisters, Frances Carlisle of Opelika, AL and Marnise Andrews of Cleveland, OH; two stepsisters, Gwen Compton and Cheryl (Tommy) Etheridge both of Cleveland, OH; three brothers, John Edwards, Johnnie Frank (Barbara) Edwards both Opelika, AL and Richard Edwards of Columbus, OH; one stepbrother, Charles Reese of Opelika, AL; one uncle, Billy (Judith) Edwards of Opelika, AL; one aunt, Grace Andrews of Cleveland, OH, a special god-aunt, Catherine Tolbert of Opelika, AL; a special companion, Linda Marbury, who was a devoted source of love and support, of Opelika, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
