Joan Reed Langford, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away quietly at her home in Lafayette, Alabama, at the young age of 79 on March 22, 2026. She died only a few hundred feet from the spot where she was born on April 4, 1946. She spent most of her life living only a few miles from where she was born and where she eventually died.
She was a God-fearing woman who loved the Lord. As a lifelong member of Sandy Ridge Methodist Church, she volunteered for many church activities and events. She also spent considerable time in service to the church, helping to decorate and keep the church presentable. She embodied kindness and faith, nurturing her love for Jesus Christ and helping others through her example.
She is preceded in death by Eddie Langford, her loving husband of 59 years. They are survived by two sons James Randall Langford (Miranda) and Christopher Bradley Langford and two granddaughters Nichole Langford and Jade Langford. She is also survived by her sisters Janice Clifton, Karen Gooden, Sylvia Reed, Donna Cummins, her brother Richard Reed and sister-in-law Teresa Reed. She also is survived by many, many nieces and nephews.
Her visitation will be held on March 25, 2026 at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home in Opelika Alabama from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm cst. Her funeral will be held at Sandy Ridge Methodist Church in Lafayette on Thursday March 26, 2026 beginning at 10:30 am cst. Followed by short graveside service at Lafayette Cemetery.
Joan Langford will be sorely missed by all those who knew of her honesty and kindness. Her loss has come upon us unexpectedly and will forever leave a empty space in our hearts that could never be replaced.
