VALLEY- During Monday’s Valley Council meeting, the council discussed various topics, including the acknowledgment of Black History Month. Councilwoman Yolanda offered her remarks in observance of this important occasion.
“Tonight, as we continue to celebrate Black History Month, let us not only honor the past but also reflect on the ongoing impact of those who have shaped the freedoms and opportunities we enjoy today across the nation. As many of you may know, the Reverend Dr. Jesse Jackson passed away last week, and his life and contributions to our country will be celebrated next week in Chicago. We want to take this moment to reflect on his decades of advocacy, faith, and leadership, which have inspired progress over the years.
Closer to home, we had the privilege of celebrating the life and legacy of Mrs. Dorothy Moore, who turned 100 years old on February 13th. As I mentioned in our previous meeting, we had the opportunity to present her with a proclamation and share in this special moment, recognizing her as the oldest citizen in District 6. Thank you to Mayor Riley, Robin, and Kathy for helping to organize this event.
As we continue to observe Black History Month, let us honor both national figures and local individuals who have changed the course of history in our community,” said Barnes.
