AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn Police Department is proud to announce the promotion of Captain James Pescia to the rank of assistant police chief.

Pescia joined the Auburn Police Department in 2008 where he worked his way through the ranks as a patrol officer, detective, sergeant and lieutenant before taking on his most recent position as patrol captain in March 2024.

In addition to his accomplished career in law enforcement, Pescia served 22 years in the Alabama Army National Guard, earning multiple honors and distinctions before retiring in 2026 as the command sergeant major for the 231st Military Police Battalion.

As he transitions into his new role, Pescia hopes to continue building upon the work that he has already started.

“I truly am honored and humbled to be selected for the position of assistant police chief, and I am grateful for the trust and confidence placed in me by Chief Harris, Director Mathews and our City Manager, Megan McGowen,” said Pescia. “This role carries a significant responsibility that is not lost on me. Throughout my career, my focus has been on supporting the development, professionalism and success of the men and women I am privileged to lead. I look forward to continuing that commitment in this new capacity.”
